CNC machining questions.
Which files should I send?
A STEP file is best: it gives the most accurate instant CNC price. SolidWorks and Parasolid files are welcome and are quoted by hand. No 3D model? Send your drawing, sketch or photos with a project inquiry and we'll quote it by hand.
How does instant quoting work?
Upload your STEP or STL at quote.indeesource.com, choose material, quantity and lead time, and you'll see a price in seconds. An engineer who machines then checks the details and confirms the final price before anything is made.
Which materials can you machine?
Aluminum, steel, stainless, titanium, brass, Delrin and PEEK. Need something else? Note it in your request and we'll look at it.
What tolerances can you hold?
Tolerances depend on part geometry and material. Call out critical dimensions and tolerances on your drawing, and we'll review them for manufacturability before we quote.
Do I need to choose 3-axis or 5-axis?
No. We choose the best setup for your part. 5-axis milling lets us machine complex, multi-sided parts in fewer setups, and multi-axis turning handles shafts, fittings and round parts.
What finishes are available?
Finishing options depend on the part and the material. Tell us the finish you need, for example as-machined, bead blast or anodize, and we'll confirm what's possible with your quote.
How are parts inspected?
In-house, with a Romer CMM and 3D scanning. Inspection records are kept on file with your programs and fixtures, so reorders run the same way every time.
Is there a minimum order?
No minimum order. One-off prototypes are welcome, and when the design is approved the same team can run short runs and bridge production.
What are your lead times?
Lead times are project-based. We quote a firm ship date with every order. Need it fast? Tell us your deadline and we'll be straight with you about what's possible.
Who sees my CAD files, and will you sign an NDA?
Only the IndeeSource team members working on your job: quoting, engineering, programming, machining and inspection. Your files are used to make your parts, and that's it. We keep them while the part is active so reorders are fast, and we'll delete them promptly whenever you ask. Need an NDA before you send anything?
